Born on Awami Island of Kagoshima in December of 1989, Minami Kizuki is now 19 years old. Moving to Tokunoshima when she was 14, she settled in Kagoshima City at 15 years old. Influenced by her elder brother, Minami started singing Awami folk singing “Shima-Uta”and was spotted by a Pony Canyon Music scout when singing in her distinctive style on the street in Kagoshima City. After singing to over 3,000 people at the MBC Summer Festival in her Shima-Uta style, and creating a strong base of fans accordingly, she went on to pursue her musical career in pop music.
In November 2008, before she even debuted, TV station KTS (Kagoshima TV) made a 55-minute documentary about her, and on the eve of her debut in December, she sold out the largest live house in Kagoshima “CAPARVOHALL”, paving the way for things to come.   
Where she was born and bred was Amami Island – a long way away from the beauty and nature of her home island, she sings her song in the metropolis of Tokyo. Her translucent sultry voice fills people with a sense of nostalgia. Perhaps it is within her DNA to cause people to feel the origins of Japan, to visualize the Japan of old. On January 7th 2009, her debut single “AITSUMUGI” was released.

In July 2009, she also performed at the Outdoor Music Festival to commemorate the longest total solar eclipse this century – ECLIPSE 2009.
